Team Descriptions
The LMG team is a year round commitment that cycles from June-May each year. The foundation of the LMG program follows the AAU and USA- gymnastics organizational governing bodies, for more information you can check their website www.usa-gymnastics.org and www.aau.org
Overall, the LMG team covets a positive environment for athletes, coaches and parents. Standards for attitude, attendance, and work ethic are center to learning life skills that will carry through our young gymnasts’ life. Building confidence and teaching recovery skills ensures success. The LMG propgram also has a focus of strength and skill. Each athlete is challenged with goal-setting and mastery, but also a try, play and see theory. Great lessons are learned from challenges, trying something new, and seeing what works. Athletes are given the opportunity to not just master skills, but try new things in a safe environment. The discipline that comes from goal-setting is at the foundation of the Lake Murray Gymnastics Team Program
Exhibition teams
The exhibition team is the first step in the LMG team program. These gymnasts will learn the basics of skill progression and perform routines at our in-house competitions.
AAU team XCEL: Bronze, Silver and Gold
The XCEL team can meet the needs of an older introductory gymnast, a gymnast that is between levels or a gymnast wanting to commit slightly less time to team and/or participate in other activities. The Xcel requirements allow the skillset in each routine to play to each gymnasts strengths. These gymnasts will work hard at meeting their goals for skills while perfecting the proper positions. These gymnasts will compete in local meets and may have the opportunity to qualify for regional and national competitions.
USAG Junior Olympic Compulsory Team: Level 1 – 5
Level 1-5 have routines that are set forth by USAG. The gymnasts learn the routines at the level for which they are designated and will work on mastery of those routines and skills. These gymnasts participate in local and regional meets with a requirement of 3-4 days a week of practice.
USAG Optional Team: Platinum and Level 6-10
Xcel Platinum and levels 6,7,8,9 and 10 are optional levels. Their performance relies heavily on their personal work ethic and their internal drive to be good at the sport. This team will participate in local, regional and national meets with a requirement of 4-5 days a week of practice. This team requires a high commitment level from the parents and gymnasts. Gymnasts are required to attend all practices/meets, take good care of their physical/mental bodies, covet a positive attitude, and work hard all the while maintaining good grades.
Lake Murray Elite:
TOPS, HOPES and ELITE TEAM: (Lake Murray Elite Homeschool Team is by invitation only for fastracked atheltes and TOPS/HOPES and ELITE team members). LME is a fast-paced environment with a strong strength and skill curriculum.
(Talent Opportunity Program), is a talent search and educational program for female gymnasts ages 7-10 and their coaches. During the months of June and July gymnasts age 7-10 are evaluated on physical abilities at the state, regional, and national level.
HOPES is a pre-elite path providing athletes with an opportunity to compete the traditional Elite compulsory and a modified FIG Optional routine and includes an opportunity to qualify to the Challenge (HOPES division only).
These gymnasts are selected from the current team and have additional practice requirements.
USAG MEN’S TEAM
LMG is proud to offer one of the few men’s programs in the area. Our men’s team boasts several state, regional and national qualifiers. Our youngest competitors can begin in the competition arena at age 6 after an evaluation and invitation process. Discipline, coordination and leadership are the basis for great life skills learned while on the LMG men’s team.
